West Chester Academy offers private lessons in most instruments and voice. Our youngest private student is 4; our oldest is 84. Private lessons are offered at a variety of convenient times during the week, Monday through Saturday, with our well respected faculty. Students may start private music lessons at any time of the year, so there's no need to wait to get started. Private study is currently offered to students of all ages in the following:

Private lessons are offered in 30, 45, and 60 minute increments. Advanced students (late intermediate and up) are encouraged to take 45 or 60 minute lessons. Contact us to see which days and times are available.

Private instruction allows the teacher to tailor lessons to the individual’s strengths and needs, helping the student reach their full potential as a musician. Students may choose either 30, 45 or 60 minute weekly lessons. The same student taking 2 lessons or one 60 minute lesson receives a $10 discount on the monthly tuition.

In addition to weekly private lessons, all private music students enjoy a small group musicianship class 2 times per year. These classes focus on developing the "total musician" by exploring topics such as performance skills, theory, ear training, transposing, sight reading, ensemble playing, style periods, improvisation, and more. All musicianship classes are one hour in length.

In private lessons, our chief aim is to support our students in mastering and communicating musical purpose and meaning through their instruments. Students of all ages and abilities learn the technical and musical skills to make their chosen discipline a vehicle for self expression and enjoyment.

The private lesson format is particularly well suited for students wishing to pursue a specific course of study such as the Music Development Program or the Suzuki Course.
